Denver Zoo West Entrance
The Zoo had planned to reopen the west gate in City Park to improve access. The defunct secondary gate sits inside City Park near the City Park Tennis Courts and just northwest of Duck Lake. Local residents were concerned about increased traffic congestion and diverting the limited parking available.
The Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance and Denver Parks and Recreation proposed a pilot program to test reopening the gate for pedestrians and cyclists, but paused the timeline to address community concerns.

City Park West Side Roadway Design
Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) is rolling out a sweeping plan to permanently alter the traffic layout on the west side of City Park.
The goal is to simplify vehicular circulation to increase safety, and to separate vehicle space from walking and biking zones. Implementation was tentatively scheduled for late 2026.

16th Avenue Shared Street & Greenway
The City of Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) has identified portions of Sherman Street and 16th Avenue as potential future shared street locations through the new Denver Shared Streets program.
There are multiple ways to provide your input! The project team is hosting pop-up events, open-house style information sessions with neighborhood organizations, and has launched a survey to gather community feedback.

City Park Bandstand
The City Park Bandstand Rebuilding Fund, initiated by City Park Friends and Neighbors (CPFAN), City Park Alliance (CPA)and Kyle Clark’s Channel 9 Word of Thanks Fund, after a fire destroyed the historic structure, raised $125,579 from more than 900 donors.
Demolition of the existing structure is planned for this fall, with construction on a new structure beginning by the end of the year and a new bandstand open in time for the 2027 City Park Jazz season.

Colfax BRT / Corridor Changes
The first phase of the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project opened on September 27, 2026, launching center bus-only lane operations (BOLO) between Broadway and Colorado Boulevard.
The complete corridor stretching from Union Station to I-225 is scheduled to debut in late 2027 or early 2028, at which point RTD's "Lynx" BRT service will fully replace routes 15 and 15L with pre-board ticketing.

Conservation Overlay District
Residents in the neighboring South City Park area have proposed a Conservation Overlay District to manage new development design standards. The goal is to protect neighborhood scale and character without limiting overall land use, density, or housing types.
The proposal is being led by the South City Park Neighborhood Association and has not yet been formally adopted. It is currently in the feedback stage before advancing to the District 10 council office.
